Yamagen Toen × Amenoiye "marais"“marais” features a moist texture reminiscent of a marshland and an elegance that evokes a European antique feel.
Its natural, faint hues, as if the sky, blue and cloudy, were reflected in a puddle, bring a sense of calm.
The smooth texture makes food shine even brighter, and the soft colors provide a feeling of reassurance.
Our encounter with "marais" happened when we visited Yamagen Toen, a pottery studio in Tokoname City, Aichi Prefecture.
With the concept of "renewing tradition," they uphold the spirit of potters who have responded to the demands of their time, developing and manufacturing Tokoname ware that suits modern life.
When we asked them to create heat-resistant tableware, they readily agreed and provided us with two shapes, oval and octagonal plates, two sizes, large and small, and two colors, white and blue.

marais Serving plate
The large plate offers greater freedom in plating. Even when used for a one-plate meal, the generous blank space on the plate gives the dining table a sophisticated atmosphere.
For my busy self, the ease of tidying up compared to using multiple small plates is perfect.

The oval shape is versatile for any dish, and its roundness creates a gentle atmosphere, which is its charm.
The moist white plate makes any dish look appealing. Use it not only for main dishes but also for carpaccio made with seasonal fish, omelets, hamburgers, or salads abundant with greens and fruits.
Since there's a slight slope on the inner edge, you can serve dishes with olive oil or a bit of liquid without worry.
