New chopsticks for a new home
When I moved, I bought new, special chopsticks to enjoy my meals at my new table.
Moving is a great opportunity to get new things for your surroundings, like furniture and tableware. Bringing new items into a new home can make daily life feel a little fresher, and naturally refreshes your mood.
Chopsticks are an essential tool for daily meals.
In Japan, chopsticks have long been used as a tool for savoring food. The sensation of grasping ingredients and the feeling of food temperature transferring to your hands are some of the pleasures of using chopsticks.
These chopsticks are made from natural wood, offering a pleasant feel unique to wood and a comfortable weight in hand. Because they are used daily, they make you want to cherish the comfort of something that fits perfectly in your hand.
Chopsticks that fit comfortably in hand, combining beauty and functionality
There are two sizes available. The medium size is recommended for women and children, while the large size is recommended for men.
The slender tips are beautiful, and the handles, carefully carved through 11 processes, fit perfectly in the hand, making them easy to grip.
Slender chopsticks are not only aesthetically pleasing but also highly practical.
When used, they grip food firmly and allow for smooth handling of even small ingredients.
With delicate tips and handles that fit comfortably in the hand, they can be used as naturally as an extension of your hand.
Their comfortable usability is another charm of these chopsticks.
An encounter with special chopsticks
My encounter with these chopsticks began when I dined at a certain restaurant.
I was drawn to the chopsticks set on the table and asked where they were purchased, and I was told about a shop called "Daikokuya."
Daikokuya is a specialty chopstick store in Sumida Ward, Tokyo. Upon researching, I found that wooden chopsticks have been made in the Sumida and Katsushika areas since the early Taisho period.
"Edo wooden chopsticks" is Daikokuya's trademark, based on the long history of chopstick making and further pursuing user-friendliness from the customer's perspective.
Inside the small shop, over 200 types of chopsticks were neatly arranged.
Among them, a single pair quietly placed on a table immediately caught my eye. Attracted by their beauty, I asked if I could purchase them, but was told they were specially made for a famous restaurant and not for sale.
Feeling disappointed and about to give up, Mr. Marukawa, Daikokuya's president and craftsman, specially gave me that pair of chopsticks.
This special pair, which I unexpectedly obtained, I still cherish and use today.
I also had the opportunity to see the production process, so please also check

A special pair of chopsticks, imbued with Daikokuya's history and the craftsman's passion.
In this new home, where a new life has begun, I look forward to using these chopsticks every day.
Even everyday meals taste a little better. Holding the chopsticks makes the mealtime itself feel a little more special.
When used daily, the tips of chopsticks can sometimes chip. In such cases, Daikokuya offers a repair service. It's a joy to be able to repair beloved chopsticks and continue using them.
A pair of chopsticks welcomed with a new life.
I will continue to cherish them and enjoy my daily meals.
