The "marais" collection offers a sophisticated feel reminiscent of a damp wetland and the elegance of antique European style.
Its natural, delicate colors, as if the sky were reflected in a puddle, showing blue skies and clouds, create a calming atmosphere. The smooth texture makes food shine, and the soft colors provide a sense of comfort.
Our encounter with "marais" happened during a visit to Yamagen Toen, a pottery studio in Tokoname City, Aichi Prefecture. With the concept of "renewing tradition," they uphold the spirit of potters who have responded to the demands of their times, developing and manufacturing Tokoname ware that suits modern lifestyles.
When we asked them to create heat-resistant tableware, they readily agreed and provided us with two shapes—oval and octagonal plates—in two sizes, large and small, and two colors, white and blue.
marais Side plate
Like the large plates, the side plates can be taken directly from the oven or microwave to the table, making them healthy and a delight for those you share your meal with. This is their charm. The entire process, from cooking to serving and storing, can be completed with a single dish, which is efficient. Recently, I often use them as small plates for single dishes.
Available in two shapes: oval and octagonal
The octagonal shape, called "octogonal" in French, is considered auspicious in traditional Eastern culture, symbolizing harmony and prosperity. It's a modern and unique alternative to everyday plates that you'll want to add to your collection.
For the small yet impactful basic white, we recommend appetizers like cheese, olives, or burrata cheese. It can be used in any setting and enhances the colors and presence of food, making it perfect for serving puddings and cakes too.

Handling Precautions
・When using for the first time, always wash with water or lukewarm water.
・"Medome" (pre-treatment) can help prevent food colors from seeping in.
・After use, remove dirt promptly and store after drying thoroughly.
・When stacking, place a sheet of tissue paper between items to prevent scratches.
・Avoid using abrasive cleaners, detergents with abrasives, scouring powder, metal scrubbers, etc., as vigorous scrubbing may scratch the surface. Please wash with a soft sponge.
Regarding gift wrapping
Gift wrapping is available for 390 yen (tax included) per item. Please select "Would you like gift wrapping?" below the "Add to Cart" button on each product page. If you have selected multiple items and would like each to be wrapped individually, please purchase the necessary number of gift wrappings. Shipping Lead Times
Normally, your selected items will be shipped within 1 to 2 business days (excluding weekends and holidays). In some cases, such as during busy periods or when extra care is needed for inspection and packaging, it may take a little longer. However, all orders will be dispatched within a maximum of 7 business days.
Should there be a delay beyond the usual timeframe, we will contact you via email in advance. We will also send a shipping confirmation email with a tracking number as soon as your items have been dispatched.
