Tokyo Chainsaws' Forestry Revolution, Fostered by Hinohara Village's Nature
Hinohara Village, located at the westernmost tip of Tokyo, is about a two-hour drive from Kagurazaka.
This village, famous as the only village in Tokyo (excluding islands), is astonishingly 93% forest.
We visited "Tokyo Chainsaws," which is based in such a nature-rich environment.
"Tokyo Chainsaws" is engaged in forestry, processing conifers such as cedar, cypress, and sawara in-house and turning them into products.

Forestry is built on a cycle of planting, nurturing, and utilizing trees.
However, the price of domestic timber has been stagnant, and the shortage of successors has become serious, leading to an increasing number of unmanaged forests nationwide.
"Tokyo Chainsaws" is earnestly addressing these challenges and striving to innovate every process of forestry.
They aim to transform forestry into a sustainable business by proposing new possibilities for forests and timber to society, rather than solely relying on subsidies.
The products created as part of their efforts to find special value in each tree are all very unique.

Log Table: Feeling Nature Indoors
What's amazing about "Tokyo Chainsaws" is that they create products that are not just for social contribution, but also highly functional and visually satisfying.
By combining the "Yama no Stool eda" from their series with a log table, you can feel nature even more indoors.
The log table is very convenient as it can be used not only as a side table but also as a stool or a display stand for plants.

A Unique Stool Spun from Natural Branches
I fell in love with this stool at first sight.
The shape of the legs, which seem to incorporate natural branches as they are, is unique and unlike anything I've seen before.
Since the wood used as material is harvested during forestry work, no two are exactly alike, allowing you to feel the strength and interest of the wood as a "living thing."
I was captivated by the charm of the material and design, which gives a sense of personal uniqueness.
Another key point is that it's lightweight and easy to carry.
Its size fits anywhere, and I currently use it in the entryway to sit on when putting on shoes or as a place to put my bag.
