Carefully selecting skin-friendly towels for everyday use and special occasions

First thing in the morning, I wash my face to wake up, and when I come home from an outing, I always wash my hands. In the evening, I take a relaxing bath.
Towels touch our skin every day, even when we're not consciously thinking about them.
They are everyday essentials that we want to prioritize for their texture and, of course, their appearance.

So, I took the opportunity of moving to completely refresh my towels.
I chose Fujitaka Towel, a long-established company with a reputation for its technical prowess, even among Imabari towels.
Founded in 1919, it's the oldest towel manufacturer in Imabari, with over 100 years of history.

These towels are perfect for everyday use, as well as for small gifts or travel.

Refresh your life with new towels

When I moved, I wanted to create a space that felt more like me, so I decided to get new towels. I've always liked simple, solid-colored towels and used them for a long time, but this time I wanted to try something a little different. Since I use them every day, I wanted something with a bit of design that could also serve as an accent in my room.
And, if possible, I thought it would be convenient if they could be used for purposes other than just towels. That's when I discovered the GRAPHIC LINE series of towels.

These towels aren't just about their design.
In fact, the attention to detail in their craftsmanship is amazing.

The GRAPHIC LINE series makes the most of Fujitaka Towel's technology, with thorough attention to color balance, weaving, and three-dimensionality.
In particular, the surface pile is densely packed to all four corners, and there are no visible selvedges or hems (the edges of the towel) that would normally be seen.

This is because a special technique called "pile wrapping" is used.
It might sound unfamiliar, but in essence, it's a time-consuming artisanal method of wrapping and sewing the selvedges and hems to the back to hide them.

Also, the ability to use completely different colors on the front and back is due to a special weaving technique.
I heard that Fujitaka Towel spared no effort, going through repeated prototypes to successfully bring out the unique charm of these towels. The craftsmanship truly shines through!

The artisan's touch in every detail: The charm of GRAPHIC LINE

Furthermore, the secret to the longevity of these towels is also said to be in the way the yarn is twisted.
Normally, towels use single yarn (a single strand) or ply yarn (two strands twisted together), and ply yarn is often used for long-lasting towels.
While ply yarn towels are durable and long-lasting, they tend to have a slightly firmer texture. However, Fujitaka Towel took on the challenge of creating new ply yarn towels to achieve both "durability" and "softness."
The result is this ideal towel, which is durable yet fluffy and soft.
These towels, with their design, feel, and ease of use, have become indispensable once I started using them.

My towel usage by size

The towels I use come in three sizes: bath towels, mini bath towels, and face towels, and each size has its own advantages.
Let me share how I use them in my home.

Blissful moments wrapped in a bath towel

Bath towels are large and fluffy, so it feels truly wonderful to wrap myself in one after a bath. I use them not only for drying my body but also as a lap blanket when sitting in my personal chair. When sitting in my favorite chair, even on a slightly chilly day, putting this on my lap keeps me warm and comfortable. It has now become an essential item for my relaxation time at home.

The convenience of a mini bath towel

Mini bath towels are just the right size and an indispensable item in our lives.
They are especially convenient to use after a bath, and
since I started using this size, I no longer use full-sized bath towels.
Many men, in particular, may prefer this size.

If you find bath towels a bit too large, mini bath towels are highly recommended.
Their compact size also helps reduce laundry, which is a bonus.

A partner in daily life: Uses for face towels

Every household has face towels.
They are essential items that play a big role in daily life and are now indispensable.

Face towels are frequently used everywhere in the house, aren't they? In my home, they are essential items in the kitchen and bathroom.

Furthermore, they are very useful during the summer leisure season.
I always take them with me when I go out.

There are various sizes available, and they can be used according to your needs, so please choose the one that fits your lifestyle.

How to use towels effectively

Initial use
It is recommended to wash new towels once before use. This ensures comfortable use. Initially, some fine lint may appear, but this will diminish after a few washes.
*Excludes towels made from zero-twist yarn.
Storing new towels for a long period can cause color fading, so please wash them soon after purchasing.

Washing method
It is important to wash towels in plenty of water, allowing them to "swim." In drum-type washing machines, low water levels and the beating action can cause the pile to stiffen. Using the drying function in conjunction can result in a fluffier finish. When washing, choose the highest water level setting possible.
Please be careful when washing with items that have zippers or Velcro, as the pile may get snagged.

Detergent selection
To prevent discoloration, avoid using fluorescent brighteners or chlorine bleach. Fabric softeners can impair a towel's absorbency, so it is generally recommended to limit their use. However, for towels that have become stiff due to age, their use is recommended.

Spin drying and drying method
Prolonged spin drying can crush the pile and cause the towel to harden. It is important to hang towels immediately after spin drying. Exposure to strong sunlight can cause color fading and hardening of the towel, so please hang them to dry in a well-ventilated shaded area. Leaving towels wet can lead to odors, mold, and bacterial growth, so please be careful.

To maintain volume
To maintain the softness and fluffiness of towels, it is recommended to gently shake them by both ends after washing and reshape them before hanging to dry. This helps the fibers stand up, resulting in a fluffy finish.

Storage method
Store towels in a fluffy state without compressing them. Since they absorb moisture easily, it is important to store them in a well-ventilated area.

If you snag a pile
Towels are delicate fabrics, so the pile can get snagged by fingernails or other objects. If a pile has pulled out, cut it at the base with scissors. Be careful not to damage the underlying fabric. If the hem or selvedge frays, you can prevent further fraying by stitching over it with a sewing machine.
