Tsuchinao Shikki Round Tray

Echizen lacquerware is said to have originated 1,500 years ago in the Kawada district of Echizen City. This is a round tray from Tsuchinao Shikki, founded in 1962, utilizing the lacquerware manufacturing techniques cultivated in this region.

It uses a technique called "nunokise," where cloth is applied to the wood base and then lacquer is coated over it. Nunokise prevents cracking and deformation of the wood base, increasing durability. Additionally, the faint fibers of the cloth visible beneath the lacquer layers create a unique texture and depth.

The 8.5-sun (approx. 25.7 cm) tray smoothly handles daily tasks such as serving meals or organizing tea and coffee sets.

Ease of care is also a key feature. For light dirt, simply wiping with a damp cloth (wet with water or lukewarm water) is sufficient, and finishing with a dry cloth is said to help maintain it in better condition. Due to the nature of lacquerware, it is recommended to avoid direct sunlight and high temperature/humidity environments, and to store it in a well-ventilated place.

Inheriting Tradition and Embracing New Manufacturing

Tsuchinao Shikki is said to handle all processes except for the base wood preparation in-house.

【Care Instructions】
・For light dirt, simply wiping with a damp cloth (wet with water or lukewarm water) is sufficient. Wiping lightly with a dry cloth as a finish will help maintain it in better condition.
・If it gets wet, completely remove all moisture and wipe with a dry cloth (cotton or a cloth specifically for lacquerware).
・To prevent deformation, deterioration, or mold, do not store for long periods in direct sunlight or highly humid areas. Storage in a well-ventilated place is recommended.
