Amenoi'e's special lacquer bowls, made with Tsuchinao Shikki
Tsuchinao Shikki's workshop is nestled in the mountains of Sabae, Fukui Prefecture.
In their showroom,
countless lacquerware pieces, including makie bowls, are displayed in abundance. The awe-inspiring sight vividly conveys the history of Tsuchinao Shikki's lacquerware craftsmanship.
"I want to share the richness of this craft with many people."
With this strong desire, we decided to commission Tsuchinao Shikki to create Amenoi'e's bowls.
Lacquer bowls for everyday use.
The soft touch unique to lacquer,
the way it gently conveys warmth,
the gentle sensation when it touches your lips.
Simply by changing to a lacquer bowl, your usual soup instantly feels more refined.
We chose the hasori (flared rim) shape, which has been cherished since ancient times.
Its subtly rounded form and gently flared rim.
The rim is thin and pleasant to the touch, giving it a sleek and elegant appearance.
For miso soup, clear broth, tonjiru (pork and vegetable soup).
This bowl makes your usual meal feel a little more luxurious.
The texture of the lacquer determines the "everyday specialness."
In the world of lacquerware, there are methods of applying many layers until the wood grain is completely covered, and there are also methods where the texture of the wood grain is subtly left visible, allowing you to feel the very breath of the material.
For this project, we requested Tsuchinao-san to make many prototypes to achieve an elegant finish where the wood grain subtly shows through on the outside.
On the other hand, the inside is coated slightly thicker, not so much that the wood grain shows through, to beautifully showcase the food served in it.
By varying the application of the same color, a profound expression is created within a single vessel.
Black Lacquer and Kodai Shu (Ancient Vermilion)
"Black Lacquer" with deep shadows
"Kodai Shu" (Ancient Vermilion), somehow nostalgic and adding warmth to the dining table
are available in two colors.
These traditional colors are timeless, and their subdued matte finish is appealing.
They are not only suitable for special occasions like New Year's and celebrations but also easy to incorporate into daily meals, allowing you to enjoy the rich aging process as the lacquer develops over time.
These bowls make wonderful gifts for wedding celebrations or anniversaries for loved ones.

As "lacquerware that blends into future living"
Classic lacquerware might be perceived as something for special occasions.
Many people may hold such an image.
However, Tsuchinao Shikki's bowls possess a gentleness that seamlessly integrates into daily dining tables, and at the same time, they add a touch of "everyday specialness" that makes you want to straighten your posture a little.
The unmistakable quality conveyed the moment you hold it.
I believe this comes not only from the appeal of lacquer as a material but also from the power of the craft itself, carefully inherited over a long time.
Lacquerware is a vessel whose luster develops and whose expression deepens little by little with use.
We hope you will enjoy the process of its slow change as it becomes part of your life.
