Notes

Each piece is handcrafted, cherishing the unique texture of earthenware.
The colors, patterns, and glaze expressions created by carbonization firing are all one-of-a-kind. Please enjoy the different landscapes of each piece as a unique characteristic of the pottery.
*Crazing (fine lines seen on the surface) is a natural characteristic created by the firing and glaze properties. It is not a defect, so please use it with confidence.

Handling Precautions

・Before first use, always wash with cold or lukewarm water.
・"Seasoning" the item will make it less prone to staining from food.
・After use, remove dirt promptly and store the item only after it has thoroughly dried.
・When stacking, a gentle touch of placing a thin piece of paper between items will prevent scratches.
・Avoid using abrasives, abrasive cleaners, cleansers, metal scrubbers, etc., as vigorously scrubbing with them may scratch the surface; instead, wash with a soft sponge.

Though made of clay, they resemble stone.

That was the sensation I felt when I first laid eyes on Sota Ohara's work.

A faint blue bleeding into the pale gray.
Subtle traces left by charcoal.
And fine, spreading crazing.

Examining each piece closely, they all present different expressions, conveying a quiet depth.

These unique expressions are born from Ohara-san's craftsmanship, involving careful handiwork as he confronts the clay and fire.

Expressions unknown until the kiln opens

A significant element that defines Ohara-san's work is the "carbonization firing" process.

After bisque firing and main firing, the vessels are placed in a "sagger" with rice husks for a third firing.

"For this part, I truly don't know what will happen until I open the kiln."

Despite repeated trial and error with clay, glazes, and firing methods, the final expression is left to nature.

Landscapes born beyond imagination.
The unique expressions, no two alike, are also a charm of Ohara-san's work.
