Heizan Kiln x Amenoiye "Maru 5.5 Donburi"
This donburi bowl was specially crafted for Amenoiye by Heizan Kiln, located in Toki City, Gifu Prefecture. This is the "sabi-maki" (rust-wrapped) design.
Donburi bowls are reliable vessels that hold a generous amount of rice and soup.
The simple shape, with its rim slightly tapered inward, allows for ample servings while maintaining a clean and elegant overall appearance.
We chose two expressions.
One is "sabi-kairagi," which is appealing for the unique texture created by the crackling of the glaze.
The other is "sabi-maki," which has a calm texture with a rust color bleeding into a black base.
Even with the same shape, the impression of the food served changes significantly depending on the color and texture.
These vessels gradually become familiar in daily life and grow with their users.

Kairagi Donburi - For a hearty lunch
One lunchtime, I served bibimbap-style rice with plenty of vegetables and meat.
Even with 1.5 times the amount of rice compared to a regular teacup, there was still plenty of room, and adding more ingredients didn't make it feel cramped.
Because the rim is slightly tapered inward, it can hold a generous amount while maintaining a clean and elegant overall appearance.
I believe that ingenuity, calculated for ease of use and beauty, is hidden within its simple form.
The charm of this vessel is that it retains a certain elegance within its impressive appearance.
Sabi-maki Donburi - For warm udon
On a cold afternoon, I prepared steaming hot udon, wanting to warm myself.
Served in a sabi-maki donburi, the calm texture of rust-colored black enhances the clear broth, making the colors of the egg and garnishes appear even more vibrant. The thick vessel retains warmth until the last bite, and by the time I finished eating, my body and soul were completely relaxed.
Kairagi Rice Bowl - For white rice
At the breakfast table, I serve freshly cooked white rice.
Served in a kairagi rice bowl, the comfortable feel in hand and the steam rising from the white rice gently combine, adding a small tranquility to the start of the day.
Even a simple breakfast of grilled salmon and tamagoyaki transforms; just holding this bowl makes me straighten my back and want to savor each bite slowly and carefully.

Sabi-maki Rice Bowl - For seasoned rice
For the calm sabi-maki rice bowl with rust color bleeding into black, I prepared autumn seasoned rice.
The thick vessel gently envelops the heat, further enhancing the colors of the mushrooms and root vegetables.
Changing the ingredients with each season adds a new look to the dining table, which is also a pleasure.
This bowl, reflecting the seasonal bounty, enriches the moments of daily life.
Kairagi and Sabi-maki.
Their respective colors change the impression of the food, bringing new expressions to the dining table.
Which one will I serve rice in today, and what kind of dish will I put in it?
Such small choices might make daily meals more fulfilling.
