Daisuke Tomimoto x Yamase Seito Mortar

This carefully crafted mortar possesses both the reliable functionality of a tool and the beauty of a vessel.
It not only supports your cooking but also beautifully enhances the overall dining experience.

It is also a new type of tool that resonates with those who wish to use authentic materials and value the act of putting effort into things.
This mortar is a collaborative creation between ceramic artist Daisuke Tomimoto and Yamase Seito, a kiln specializing in mortars.
It is a meticulously crafted item that balances functionality with aesthetic beauty.

Available in two colors: black and blue-gray.

Black boasts an appealing rough, matte texture, adding a subtle presence to the dining table.
Blue-gray, on the other hand, features a lustrous surface that gently reflects light.
It is a color that combines dignified elegance with gentleness.
Both quietly complement the appearance of food while radiating distinct individuality.

The rough ceramic surface and the meticulously carved ridges (kushime) on the inside firmly hold various ingredients such as sesame seeds, aromatic vegetables, and soft root vegetables, grinding them smoothly.
And what's most delightful is that it can be used directly as a serving dish after grinding.
Simply arrange it like a small bowl, and it beautifully completes a dish.

When you want to subtly enhance your daily dining experience,
this mortar becomes a reliable companion, transforming effort into richness.

Handling Precautions

- Do not use a pestle other than a wooden one. Using a non-wooden pestle may cause the ridges to chip.
- After use, rinse with water and store only after it has completely dried.
- If dirt gets stuck in the ridges, wash with a scrubbing brush. Do not use metal scrubbers, abrasive sponges, or cleansers, as these may damage the bowl.
- For black suribachi, when grinding meat or fish, we recommend soaking the suribachi in water for about 10 minutes before use. This will make it harder for food odors to permeate the bowl.
