AJI PROJECT
This product is from "AJI PROJECT," a beautiful design interior brand that uses Aji stone.
Aji stone is a high-grade granite quarried from the cliffs of Mt. Goken, which straddles Mure-cho and Aji-cho in Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture.
The brand was launched in 2012 by 13 local stonemasons and volunteers from the chamber of commerce with the desire to share its appeal with more people.
Aji stone is a historic stone material that has been traditionally used in building materials and stone statues for over 400 years.
AJI PROJECT sublimates its natural form and texture into designs that fit modern lifestyles.
The appealing door stopper, with its beautiful stone texture and minimalist rope impression, has a simple structure: a rope passed through a cylindrical Aji stone with a hole.
The colored rope is durable and soft to the touch.
The balance with the polished Aji stone's appearance is exquisite, and even carrying it looks picturesque.
The weight of the Aji stone and the non-slip material on the entire back provide outstanding stability, smartly holding doors in place, making it a reliable item.
Rich Texture Woven by Differences in Particle Size
The minerals contained in Aji stone have small crystals, and are classified into "Komame" (fine-grained) and "Chume" (medium-grained) based on their particle size.
Additionally, those containing a high iron content, which are brownish, are called "Sabi-ishi" (rust stone) in the production area.
The fine-grained stone on the bottom left is characterized by its delicate texture, and when carefully polished, it reveals a beautiful, double-kasuri-like pattern.
The medium-grained stone on the bottom right is characterized by small grains of biotite, one of the main components of Aji stone, and appears slightly whiter compared to the fine-grained stone.
The Sabi-ishi at the top center has long been used for gardens, but in recent years, it has reportedly been attracting attention as a building material.
It is named after its brownish "sabi-iro" (rust color), and it is surprising that as time passes, it gains more depth, and the beauty of its natural surface is said to have a healing effect.
Elegant and Robust Aji Stone
Aji stone is a type of granite, but it is also called the "diamond of granite" due to the beauty of its fine crystals.
Aji stone is also characterized by its high hardness and resistance to weathering.
It is said that the strong bond of its fine crystals allows for delicate craftsmanship that cannot be replicated by other stones.
Forms that naturally blend into any space
AJI PROJECT products are said to be developed with an emphasis on the texture of Aji stone and consideration for the stone's placement.
Although seemingly unconventional, they somehow naturally blend into various spaces, as if they had always been there.
Stone shapes that bring a clear breeze to your space
The Aji stone producing region has a long history as a prosperous stone industry area and is known for the high skill of its artisans.
Here, specialists divide the work, such as splitting, digging, and polishing.
Each artisan utilizes their unique skills, and a single product is created through each step from quarrying to processing.
AJI PROJECT's items boast delicate and excellent quality, leveraging the unique texture of Aji stone while working with this natural material, stone, which emits energy nurtured by the earth.
The time spent considering where to display them in the room has also become one of my recent pleasures.
