AJI PROJECT
This product is from AJI PROJECT, a brand of beautiful design interiors using Aji Stone.
Aji Stone is a high-grade granite quarried from the rock face of Mt. Goken, which straddles Mure-cho and Aji-cho in Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture.
With the desire to share its appeal with more people, the brand was launched in 2012 by 13 local stonemasons and volunteers from the Chamber of Commerce.
Aji Stone is a historic material that has been traditionally used in building materials and stone statues for over 400 years.
AJI PROJECT elevates its natural form and texture into designs that fit modern lifestyles.
The compact cube-shaped umbrella stand has a small hole at the top for inserting umbrellas and delicate holes at the bottom for drainage, creating a simple yet captivating design.
Its minimalist shape and moderate weight firmly support umbrellas, making it likely to be very useful during the upcoming rainy season.
Rich Texture Woven by Differences in Grain
The minerals contained in Aji Stone have small crystals, and are classified as "fine-grained (komame)" and "medium-grained (chume)" depending on the size of their grains.
In addition, brown-colored stones with a high iron content are called "sabi-ishi" (rust stone) in the production area.
The fine-grained stone on the bottom left is characterized by its delicate texture, and when polished carefully, it reveals a beautiful, double-kasuri pattern.
The medium-grained stone on the bottom right is characterized by its small biotite grains, which are one of the main components of Aji Stone, making it appear slightly whiter than the fine-grained stone.
The sabi-ishi (rust stone) at the top center has long been used for gardens, but in recent years, it has also attracted attention as a building material.
It is named after its reddish-brown "sabi" (rust) color, and it is surprising how its depth increases over time, and the beauty of its natural surface provides a healing effect.
Elegant and Sturdy Aji Stone
Aji Stone is a type of granite, but due to the beauty of its fine crystals, it is also called the "diamond of granite."
Aji Stone is also characterized by its high hardness and resistance to weathering.
The strong bond of its fine crystals allows for delicate craftsmanship that other stones cannot replicate.
Forms that naturally blend into any space
AJI PROJECT products are developed with great care for the material quality of Aji Stone and consideration for where the stone will be placed.
Though seemingly foreign at first glance, they mysteriously blend naturally into various spaces, as if they had always been there.
The shape of stone brings clear air to a space.
The Aji Stone production area has a long history as a place where the stone industry flourished, and it is also known for the high skill of its artisans.
Here, specialized artisans work in a division of labor, with each specializing in tasks such as splitting, excavating, and polishing.
Each artisan utilizes their unique skills, and through each step from quarrying to processing, a single product is created.
Working with stone, a natural material that emanates the energy nurtured by the earth, the items from AJI PROJECT boast delicate and exceptional quality, making the most of the unique texture of Aji Stone.
Thinking about where to display them in my room has recently become one of my simple pleasures.
