AJI PROJECT

A door stopper characterized by the combination of stone and hemp rope.
Three cylindrical Aji stones are bundled with hemp rope, which not only bundles the stones but also functions as a handle and a buffer against the floor.
The simple form, combining natural materials, is charming and becomes an eye-catching interior accent during use.

This product is from "AJI PROJECT," a beautiful design interior brand that uses Aji stone.
Aji stone is a high-grade granite quarried from the cliffs of Gokenzan, which spans Mure-cho and Aji-cho in Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture.

With the desire to share its appeal with more people, the brand was launched in 2012 by 13 local stonemasons and volunteers from the chamber of commerce.

Aji stone is a historic stone material that has been traditionally used in building materials and stone statues for over 400 years.
AJI PROJECT elevates its natural form and texture into designs that blend into modern lifestyles.

Rich Texture Woven by Differences in Grain

The minerals contained in Aji stone have small crystals and are classified into "komame" (fine-grained) and "chume" (medium-grained) depending on the size of their grains.
In addition, brown-colored stones with a high iron content are called "sabi-ishi" (rust stone) in the production area.

The fine-grained komame on the lower left is characterized by its delicate surface, and when carefully polished, it reveals a beautiful pattern like a doubleかすり (kasuri) pattern.

The medium-grained chume on the lower right has small grains of biotite, one of the main components of Aji stone, and appears slightly whiter compared to komame.

The sabi-ishi in the upper center has long been used for gardens, but in recent years, it has also attracted attention as a building material.
It is named after its reddish-brown "sabi color," and it deepens over time, bringing a surprising healing effect through the beauty of its natural surface.

Elegant and Solid Aji Stone

Aji stone is a type of granite, but it is also called the "diamond of granite" due to the beauty of its fine crystals.

Aji stone is also characterized by its high hardness and resistance to weathering.
Because of the strong bond of its fine crystals, it is said to be able to create delicate carvings that other stones cannot replicate.

Forms that Naturally Blend into Any Space

AJI PROJECT products are developed with careful consideration for the placement of the stone, valuing the texture of Aji stone.
Although seemingly unconventional at first glance, they surprisingly blend naturally into various spaces as if they had always been there.

Stone Shapes that Bring Clear Air to a Space

The Aji stone production area has a long history as a place where the stone industry flourished and is also known for the high skills of its artisans.
Here, specialized artisans divide tasks such as splitting, excavating, and polishing.
Each artisan utilizes their expertise, and each product is created through every step of the process, from quarrying to processing.

The items from AJI PROJECT handle natural materials—stones that emanate energy cultivated by the earth—and leverage the unique texture of Aji stone to boast delicate and exceptional quality.
Considering where to display them in the room has also become one of my recent pleasures.
