Thinking of my mother, who loves flowers
This year, Mother's Day is on May 10th.
As I look at the calendar, I'm starting to think about what to get for Mother's Day.
The words "Thank you for everything" can be difficult to say when you're actually face-to-face, almost embarrassing. So, at the very least, on this one day of the year, I want to convey my feelings through a gift.
My mother loves flowers very much, planting seasonal flowers in planters in the garden and displaying ikebana arrangements from her lessons. Looking back, there were always plants in her home, as if it were the most natural thing.
Perhaps because I grew up watching my mother cherish flowers, flowers and greenery naturally became a part of my own life.
This year, while imagining my flower-loving mother's face, I'm thinking of giving her a vase that blends into her daily landscape.
"3RD CERAMICS" - Beautifully arranged with just a simple insertion
3RD CERAMICS vases are an indispensable item in my life.
I use all sizes, and they are all incredibly easy to use, making it difficult to choose just one size. For my mother, who also loves branches, I think the M size would be good, as it can hold not only flowers but also small branches securely.
The greatest charm of this vase is its tightly narrowed opening. Flowers and branches don't scatter; they simply settle into a nice position with just a simple insertion.
The texture is also pleasant, with a feel of fine clay particles, characteristic of unglazed pottery. Its elegant appearance is timeless and fits any setting, always maintaining a dignified presence.
"Daigo Kikuchi's Vase" - Enjoying the changing light
Next on my list was Daigo Kikuchi's glass vase. Its faintly colored pale pink glass and plump form are striking. Just by being there, the atmosphere around it becomes soft and gentle.
The cool water visible through the glass and the beautiful lines of the stems extending into it are captivating. The plants arranged within seem to be at ease, as if taking a deep, relaxed breath.
The clear light of morning, the slanted rays of evening. The expression of the transparent glass and the shadows it casts change subtly with the angle of the incoming light. The ability to enjoy not only the flowers themselves but also the changing scenery throughout the day is a major charm of this vase.
"Kazuya Niimi's Vase" - Coloring like a specimen
Finally, Niimi's vase. The soft curves and modern straight lines, in exquisite balance, immediately catch the eye. Inspired by architecture and everyday objects, Niimi's works delight us with their diverse forms.
The design, where a glass cylinder neatly covers a wooden base, is like a small botanical specimen encasing favorite plants and flowers. It's fascinating how each piece's atmosphere changes completely depending on the color of the wooden base. Should I choose a bright and light color, or a calm and deep one? The time spent choosing, while imagining the atmosphere of my parents' home and my mother's preferences, is also enjoyable.
A peaceful time woven by flowers and vases
This year's Mother's Day.
It would be lovely to give a vase that will last, along with seasonal flowers.
Choosing flowers, deciding where to display them.
I hope it becomes a warm gift that makes her think of me during those quiet moments of tending to plants.
