Tokyo Chainsaws' Forestry Revolution, Fostered by Hinohara Village's Nature
Hinohara Village is located at the westernmost tip of Tokyo, about a two-hour drive from Kagurazaka.
This village, famous as the only village in Tokyo (excluding islands), is astonishingly 93% forest.
We visited "Tokyo Chainsaws," which is located in such a nature-rich environment.
"Tokyo Chainsaws" is a forestry business that processes and commercializes conifers such as杉 (sugi, Japanese cedar), ヒノキ (hinoki, Japanese cypress), and サワラ (sawara, Japanese cypress) in-house.

Forestry is based on a cycle of planting, nurturing, and utilizing trees.
However, the price of domestically produced timber is declining, the shortage of successors is becoming serious, and neglected forests are increasing nationwide.
"Tokyo Chainsaws" is earnestly addressing these challenges, striving to innovate every step of the forestry process.
They aim to transform forestry into a sustainable business by proposing new possibilities for forests and timber to society, rather than solely relying on subsidies.
The products created as part of their efforts to find special value in each tree are all very unique.

Unique Stools Woven from Natural Branches
This stool immediately caught my eye.
The shape of its legs, which seem to preserve the natural branches, is unique and unlike anything I've seen before.
Since the materials are trees harvested during forestry work, no two are alike, allowing one to feel the strength and charm of trees as "living things."
I was captivated by the appeal of the material and design, which offer a sense of personal uniqueness.
Another key point is that it is light and easy to move.
With a size that fits anywhere, I currently use it in the entryway to sit on when putting on shoes or as a place to put my bag.

Embracing Comfort: The Body-Conforming Paper Cord Seat
The seat, woven with paper cord, is characterized by good ventilation, making it less prone to stuffiness.
Unlike wooden or plastic seats, it feels warm when you sit on it, which is a welcome feature for someone like me who is sensitive to cold.
The more it is used, the more it conforms to the user's body shape, increasing its embracing comfort.
The durability of paper cord is said to be 10 to 15 years, but it can usually be rewoven by repair shops, so I hope to cherish and use it for longer than its estimated lifespan.

Experience Nature: Combining with Log Tables
What's amazing about "Tokyo Chainsaws" is that they not only contribute to society but also create products that are fully functional and visually satisfying.
For example, combining it with the log tables from the same series allows you to feel nature even more intensely indoors.
Log tables are very convenient as they can be used not only as side tables but also as display stands for stools or plants.
Wood type: Conifer branches
Size: W440 x D325 x H460mm
Seat: Paper cord (domestic)

※No two products are exactly alike. Please look forward to which product you receive.
※Weight varies depending on the type of wood used, but it is light enough for a woman to carry easily.
※Enjoy the changes over time as it is touched and exposed to sunlight.
