Keizan kiln
Keizan kiln was founded in 1957, inheriting the tradition of Arita town, where Japanese porcelain was born 400 years ago.
As it was founded to pursue the beauty of sometsuke (underglaze blue), it boasts an astonishing variety, ranging from classical to modern designs.
Each piece is so unique that you'd want to call it "Ichigo Ichie" (a once-in-a-lifetime encounter), making you want to pick up one after another as you browse.
All works from Keizan kiln, from forming to painting and firing, are done in-house, with the maker's passion imbued into every detail of each piece.
Perhaps this is why the ceramics exude a certain gentleness and grace.
Namasu Plate
This namasu plate is highly versatile and very practical.
It's a shallow medium-sized bowl that can be used for simmered dishes, dressed dishes, or as a small main dish or serving plate.
The slightly curved rim securely holds food, so you can serve anything on it.
The appetizers I usually make tend to be monochromatic, but this plate makes them look good even if I don't pay too much attention to the arrangement, so I find it very useful.
Even dishes prepared quickly have an elegance as if served in a restaurant, and they pair perfectly with the food.
It naturally creates an atmosphere that makes you want to enjoy a drink or two.
Cooling Ware
Keizan kiln's ceramics are characterized by their clear appearance, a weave of indigo blue and the white space of porcelain, which evokes a sense of coolness even just by looking at them.
Each time you serve food, the dining table is neatly arranged, creating a calm atmosphere.
Furthermore, Keizan kiln's ceramics feel more like "decorating" than "storing," and the overlapping colors and patterns, as well as the balance between the vessels, beautifully organize the shelves.
As my collection of favorite ceramics gradually grows, I greatly appreciate their stackability and ease of storage.
