Emitting Light and Embracing Light

Even after dusk when the lights were turned on, there were times when it felt somehow "just bright."
In the quietness of the night, I wanted a little more gentle warmth.
That's when I encountered 3RD CERAMICS' "time" pendant lamps.

The light that shines through the translucent porcelain shade, as its name suggests, gently illuminates the flow of time and creates a quiet rhythm in the space.
The thinly applied clear glaze on the smooth porcelain texture gives off a subtle luster, softly reflecting the light. It's a "not-too-white white" that feels sleek yet somehow warm.
For our home, we welcomed two "time" lamps: one shaped like a trumpet, emitting light, and one shaped like a teardrop, embracing light.

Trumpet - Gently Emitting Light

In the dining room, we have the trumpet-shaped "time."
Its gently widening curve downwards is beautiful, bringing a soft brightness to the dining table.

When I switched it on while it was still bright outside, the light passed smoothly through the porcelain, and an orange glow gradually suffused the entire shade.
I didn't expect it to be so translucent, and it took my breath away.
Soft and warm. These words perfectly describe this light.

It's made using a highly translucent porcelain clay called "new born," and the light born through the clay gently envelops the space as if carrying the warmth of human hands.
The marks of the potter's wheel emerge in the light, and it feels as if the time spent working with the clay is quietly etched into each and every line.

As evening passes, the orange color deepens, and the light's gradations become more prominent.
The light falls directly onto the dining table, providing just the right brightness for reading or eating.
I accidentally got a little dirt on it during installation, but it immediately returned to its original white with a light wipe of a cloth.
Apparently, a very thin clear glaze is applied with the wish that it "be used in white forever."
Because it's a place used daily, ease of maintenance is a welcome feature.
It's a light that can be used with peace of mind at the dining table.

Teardrop - Gently Enclosing Light

In the living room, we have the teardrop-shaped "time."
I was drawn to its soft curves, as if capturing the moment a single drop of water falls.
Its form, which somehow evokes the rhythm of nature, makes it look like an object even when not lit.
Even on busy days, just looking at it can help you relax.
It seems likely to become a presence that creates small moments of calm in everyday life.

When I switch it on during a cloudy afternoon, the light slowly fills the inside of the lamp, and a gradation of orange emerges.
If the trumpet's light illuminates the entire space, the teardrop's light embraces the light, revealing its depth.
As it encloses the light, the lines of the potter's wheel become even more distinct, and their shadows create the expression of the light itself. Gazing at the teardrop's orange, time seems to gently unwind, and I feel my mind becoming calm and well-ordered.

Light that Changes with Time

"Time" shows various expressions as time passes.
From white to orange, and back to white.
The gradations of orange seen in between evoke a sense of "time" different from a clock's hands.

The trumpet's light illuminates daily activities, while the teardrop's light embraces their lingering presence.
The two "time" lamps create a quiet rhythm in daily life with their respective lights.
Even in busy days, whenever I look up, the expression of the light seems slightly different.
It's不思議 that each time, my mind feels calm and organized.
