AJI PROJECT
This product is from "AJI PROJECT," a brand of beautiful design interiors that uses Aji Stone.
Aji Stone is a high-grade granite quarried from the rock face of Mt. Goken, which spans Mure-cho and Aji-cho in Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture.
The brand was launched in 2012 by 13 local stonemasons and volunteers from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, with the desire to share its charm with more people.
Aji Stone is a historic stone material that has been traditionally used in construction materials and stone statues for over 400 years.
AJI PROJECT elevates its natural forms and textures into designs that blend seamlessly with modern lifestyles.
The roll paper stand, a combination of stone and wood, has a stable center of gravity due to the stone base, making it less likely to tip over even when pulling out paper.
At home, I use it as a toilet paper holder, but it can also be used as a kitchen paper holder.
It blends into any space and embodies the beauty of utility.
Rich texture woven by differences in particle size
The minerals contained in Aji Stone have small crystals and are classified into "Komame" (fine grain) and "Chumame" (medium grain) depending on the size of their particles.
In addition, brown-tinged stones with a high iron content are called "Sabi-ishi" (rust stone) in the production area.
The fine-grained stone on the bottom left is characterized by its delicate texture, and when carefully polished, it reveals a beautiful pattern resembling a double kasuri weave.
The medium-grained stone on the bottom right has small grains of biotite, one of the main components of Aji Stone, and appears slightly whiter than the fine-grained stone.
The Sabi-ishi at the top center has long been used for gardens, but in recent years, it has reportedly been attracting attention as a building material.
It gets its name from its brownish "rust color," and it's surprising to learn that it deepens with age, and the beauty of its natural surface has a healing effect.
Elegant and Solid Aji Stone
Aji Stone is a type of granite, but it is also called the "diamond of granite" due to the beauty of its fine crystals.
Aji Stone is also characterized by its high hardness and strong resistance to weathering.
Because the fine crystals are strongly bound, it is said that delicate craftsmanship that cannot be imitated by other stones can be applied.
A form that naturally blends into any space
AJI PROJECT products are said to be developed with an emphasis on the texture of Aji Stone and consideration for the stone's place.
Although seemingly disparate, they mysteriously blend naturally into various spaces as if they had always been there.
The shape of stone brings clear air to your space
The Aji Stone production area has a long history as a place where the stone industry flourished, and it is also known for the high skills of its craftsmen.
Here, specialized craftsmen work in a division of labor, performing tasks such as splitting, digging, and polishing.
Each craftsman utilizes their expertise, and a single product is created through each step from quarrying to processing.
Handling natural materials like stone, which radiates energy cultivated by the earth, AJI PROJECT items boast delicate and excellent quality, leveraging the unique texture of Aji Stone.
Considering where to display them in my room is one of my recent pleasures.
